Intro & President Message

In 2001, a group of twelve people in Sun Lakes formed a Havurah, which met once a month, on a Friday evening, for dinner at a nearby restaurant, followed by a very friendly, stimulating Shabbat service in one of the homes. And, of course, coffee and….

After only a couple of months, several friends and acquaintances from the community expressed a strong desire to join us. To accommodate their wishes, we took a room in our community clubhouse, and publicized our service. We immediately went from fifty participants to sixty, seventy, and more. Before we knew it, we were a vibrant, friendly congregation. We became registered as Temple Havurat Emet (Fellowship of Truth), obtained non-profit status, purchased a Torah, and HERE WE ARE!

As we have continued to grow, we have actively continued to foster the intimate, warm friendly environment in which our individual capacity for spirituality can be nurtured.

Formal Shabbat Services are the 1st Friday of each month, 7:30 PM, Robson Library Lecky A&C Room, at 9930 E Riggs Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248. Click here to obtain a map to our location.

Informal Shabbat Services are the 3rd Friday of each month, 7:30 PM, held at a members home.

Karen Hivry President

I want to welcome anyone who is seeking a friendly, comfortable, and close knit congregation to join with us for our uplifted services as well any other of our religious, spiritual, or social event.

What do we, as Jews look for in a synagogue? At the top of my list are community, spirituality, friendship and Jewish tradition.  As a central point of Jewish community, our congregation is a place where lasting friendships are forged as our members strive to perpetuate our Jewish traditions.

For the partnership to work there must be a give and take relationship similar to a successful marriage, or friendship.  We must listen to each other. We must not question each other’s motives. We must make decisions in a way that brings us together instead of pushing us apart. Our setting is such that everyone works together for a common cause.

If you are new to Arizona or looking to join a temple, we welcome you into our congregation and our community. I believe that everyone who participates in our temple family has something to contribute to it. Consider how you can find your niche at Temple Havurat Emet.

Shalom
Karen Hivry
